Another distraction. These are some of the pics I’ve been making/taking with my iPhone. I’ve made a point to not use any other editing tool that what is available on my phone. I’m quite happy with most of them for one reason or another.

If anyone’s interested in a particular picture I’d be happy to give more details, just ask…

This is an older file, I was getting used to all the unlimited features in maya2010 that I didn’t have a chance to play with in Maya2008 complete.

This is just simply an ocean preset that I dropped a ball into as a “boat”. God 3D is getting so much easier now you don’t have to actually do any brainwork.

I wonder if I could make some sort of unity3d game based on picking up floating balls from a rowboat? I could call it “Hauling in the craypots” or something equally twee. I also need to acknowledge I’m just trying to distract myself from this big pile of marking sitting next to me.

I’m so desperate for distractions I might just post all my old 3d anims up here.. anything but the marking.

The original mocapped skeleton that I brought into the unity3D engine.

This was a quick refresher for myself on how to use .bvh files in maya. I’m using the new maya2010 but still needed to get the importbvh MEL script from highend3d (or whatever they’re called now, crashcow?) I’m sure theres a better way to use mocap in maya (can anyone give me a copy of motionbuilder for the mac? Autodesk if you read this?) but it was a great intro to the trax editor. I know theres issues with the feet sliding & going thru the floor at the end, can I fix this with a constraint in maya I wonder?) The whole process, including resetting the joints & scaling & positioning plus a tiny tiny cleanup of some obvious flips in the graph editor took less than 15 minutes though, it took over 30 minutes just to import the bvh in maya2008, gotta love progress.

Anyway, I’m really getting excited by the possibilities unity3D, Maya and the mac offer in the way of developing the cool tools of tomorrow.. i’ve got to get into the iPhone unity thing soon.. oh, & I’ve got marking to do too..

I’m using the sewerProject scene available from the unity website.

There seems to be a lot of good reference materials and a healthy forum there too, i hope to become a regular contributing member.

This time I’m seeing how easy it is to edit your textures, I simply opened the file in photoshop, made my changes as a psd ,saved the file & it was automatically updated in unity. Can you spot the subtle work logo?

How easy is this? I’m enjoying experimenting & look forward to getting to a point where opening the documentation is necessary. This is cool stuff, thanks again unity3D guys!

yet more unity 3D fun..

m still literally in my first half hour of sitting in front of unity3D & playing, I haven’t needed to hit the documentation yet so that has got to be a good thing. Here I’ve just added a plane & dragged a grass texture on it, made a few balls & blocks & turned on rigidbodies & here ya go.. fun to be had for hours & hours..

I know I should be marking work but I cant stop playing with this thing..

My first 5 minutes with the new unity 2.6. I simply dropped a maya scene where Id been playing with mocap files (bvh) & smooth binding different mesh, into the unity demo jungle scene. A quick scale & position & there you have it. I’ve obviously got to figure out how to make it triggered & conform to the terrain & stuff but for 5 minutes I’m impressed! go unity! Now to get the boss to buy me a copy of motionbuilder2010,and a pro license of this amazing unity engine, and the iPhone Unity thing… I can only dream… I also apologise for the damn seagull squawks in advance btw. I’m putting learning how to control the audio high on my to-do list.

Wow, this post has been a long time coming.. I guess its hard to find a reason to update something I think is so ephemeral & unvisited.

BUGGER!!

I was woken up at 4 am by my wife telling me our car had been stolen!
Not the nicest way to wake up I discovered.. anyway, apparently someone opened our side gate, walked past my bike and got to the back door. It had been a warm night so we’d left the back sliding door open a little bit to let a breeze thru & had locked the sliding fly-screen. These scoundrels had pushed the screen thru with their hands, unlocked the door & entered the house.On the dining table sat Michele’s handbag with her house keys, purse, credit cards inside. On the same table (the table I’m using to write this blog) sat this laptop, next to my iPod touch, and assorted technologies, printer, router/modem etc.
Luckily I guess, all they took was the handbag.
Michele was woken by our cat meowing apparently. She got up to find the back doors both slid open which she thought strange, she then couldn’t see her handbag (which didn’t surprise me cause she forgets where she puts it sometimes) but then looked out the front door for the car, which wasn’t there!
Remember its still only 4 am..
So I groggily get up to see whats happening, the girls wake up because of the noise and we’re all freaking out..did this really happen? how did this happen? what does it mean if it has happened? the questions just popped up, one by one, each scarier than the previous..
now the girls are frightened, Michele is frightened and I’m pissed off.
The insurance covers the car sortof, and we get a hire car for a while but thats not the point..
we’ve been invaded..
grrrrr…
I should mention I still have the bike, it’s Michele and the kids that are really disadvantaged. Yay silver lining eh?
